About
A Bit of History
Well, there is not too much to say about me, really. I grew up in Luxembourg, a lovely little country in the heart of Europe, and spent most of my childhood there.
I spent my days as a teenager sitting in class at the LycĂ©e Robert Schuman Luxembourg, learning a bunch of stuff about languages, the arts, maths, and other topics that seemed quite dull at the time. Looking back, I am nevertheless quite happy that I know about these things today (don’t we all feel this way?).
In 1995, I decided that it was time for a change, and I embarked on a journey to Richmond, Virginia, where I would attend J.R. Tucker High School as a foreign exchange student. This is when my ambition for computing, which I had discovered already in young age, really started to show. While I had run my own BBS for quite a while then, I finally moved on to the next big thing: The Internet.
Coming back to Luxembourg a year later, my current school didn’t seem to be what I wanted to do any longer. I decided to transfer to the Lycee Technique des Arts et Metiers, which offered a degree program that was entirely focused on computing. I liked it there, and soon after graduated as an Technicien en Informatique.
I continued my studies in Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen, in Scotland. During my third year I did an internship with Sun Microsystems, Inc. in Denver, Colorado, working on knowledge management solutions. Then I began working for a start-up called Local Matters as a research engineer.
In early 2007, I decided that it was time to do my own thing, and founded Brightkite.
My Hobbies
In my spare time, I enjoy downhill mountainbiking, snowboarding, hockey and rollerblading. I can often be found at the local pub enjoying a game of pool over some pints with friends.
And, of course, I like to spend a lot of time with my wife Kim.
